The color green is associated with many things, including growth, money, nature, and St. Patrick’s Day. As I pondered a topic for fun facts Friday, I kept coming back to the color green. God chose this color to represent growth. As I sit looking out my window, I can see green grass and the trees, and all of my plants are starting to turn green. In nature, the color green is often associated with nature, renewal, and growth, symbolizing the vitality and fertility of the natural world. This association with growth and renewal can also extend to personal growth, development, and rejuvenation. The color green is also associated with St. Patrick’s Day, coming up on March 17th, because it is the color of spring, Ireland’s lush landscape, and the shamrock, a symbol of Ireland and some say a representation of the Holy Trinity.
As for the US dollar, the primary reason for U.S. currency being green can be traced back to the mid-19th century and the introduction of the “greenback” during the American Civil War. The U.S. government chose green ink primarily because it was readily available and durable. The green ink was less likely to fade or be easily counterfeited compared to other colors available at the time. While there is no official explanation for why the color green specifically was chosen, some speculate that green may have been chosen because it symbolizes stability, growth, and prosperity.
Another fun fact about the color green: Green has a wavelength of 495 to 570 nanometers. It is exactly in the middle of the visible spectrum, which ranges from violet (380 – 450 nm) to red (625 – 750 nm).
All of that to say, God is Good. Spring is coming, and all things are new. I am exhibiting personal growth and development, and prosperity in all areas of my life.
I am like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season; its leaf does not wither; and whatever I do prospers [and comes to maturity].
