Mindset Mondays: Living Intentionally

Living intentionally involves making conscious choices that reflect your values and beliefs. It means being proactive rather than reactive and living with purpose rather than drifting aimlessly. A few months ago, I published a post entitled Next Time: Be Intentional. You can view it here. Since that time, the Holy Spirit has been continually speaking to me about intentionality. We must be constantly aware of our intentions when dealing with people, our finances, our thoughts, our motives, and every part of our lives. God wants us to live intentionally.

living intentionallyWhat does intentionality look like from a Biblical perspective? Living intentionally means we are focusing on following the leading of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. There will always be opportunities to choose differently; however, at the end of the day, our intent should be obedience to the Word. Follow Paul’s advice in Philippians 4:8, “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart]” we can be assured that we are doing what is right.”

Are there areas in your life where you need to focus more on living intentionally? Do a daily checklist. Ask yourself, am I living intentionally on my job, within my relationships, or in my spending? Are there areas that need improvement? Ask the Holy Spirit to show you areas where you need to make some changes. Once you become aware of these areas, commit to praying for intentionality. Ephesians 3:14-19 provides an excellent prayer asking the Father for help in living intentionally.

Prayer: Ephesians 3:14-19 – For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith–that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have the strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Let’s focus on intentional living.
