Mindset Mondays: Practicing God’s Presence

We can never spend too much time practicing God’s presence. In my devotional reading a few days ago, I was captivated by the author speaking about maintaining a life of peace and joy by practicing God’s presence. She said the secret to a life of peace and joy is maintaining an awareness of God’s presence even in the most mundane of circumstances. Even though we often mentally acknowledge that God is everywhere, we are less aware of God with us and in us (Psalm 16:8). We must be intentional in turning to God (in us) over and over again to develop this awareness. It doesn’t happen overnight.

GOD'S PRESENCEThe reality is God’s presence is always there, whether we are asleep or awake. God’s desire is for us to walk in an awakening that makes us aware of His presence, not just when we are in worship, hear His voice, or when we have a powerful supernatural encounter. He desires for us to be so cognizant that we are sensitive to His presence even in our daily routines like reading, cleaning, or taking a walk on the beach.

When you are awakened to God’s presence, you will have confidence that He has gone before you to make every path straight. You will have an assurance that He is directing your steps, giving you favor and wisdom, and creating divine appointments. Our prayer should be asking the Father to help us crucify our flesh so we can be more sensitive to His heart. Do you know when God walks into a room and when He leaves? Are you constantly aware of what He is doing in and around you? Let’s start by being intentional about practicing God’s presence.

How do we develop an awareness of God’s presence? Start your day with prayer, being aware that He listens and responds. Philippians 4:6-7:  Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].

Be mindful and cultivate a continual awareness that God is always with you, guiding and comforting you. Psalm 139:7-10: Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there, Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will take hold of me.

Developing a mindset of practicing the presence of God can help you grow in your awareness of God’s presence and deepen your relationship with Him.
