We are destined for greatness. God created each of us with a purpose in mind. Why are you here? You are here because there is a problem you were created to solve. You are probably asking, What problem?
How do you discover your purpose?
1. Ask God (Psalm 32:8). Earnestly pray in line with the Word; asking God to reveal it to you (Jeremiah 33:3). God called you to a plan greater than yourself. Jeremiah was called to be a prophet to the nations, even before he was born (Jeremiah 1:5). Joseph was told to name the Messiah, Jesus, because He was to save people from their sins (Matthew 1:20-24).
2. Follow your Passion. What are you passionate about? What drives you? What is it that you hate? Your purpose lies in solving those problems. Does sickness make you angry; what about mental illness? David despised anyone who spoke against the living God. It made him angry enough to take action (1 Sam 17: 26). Nehemiah was passionate about rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. When he heard about the condition of the holy city, he wept (Nehemiah 1).
3. Know your gift. What are your gifts? Are you gifted at investing money to make more money? It is through these gifts that God has placed within you that you will make an impact on the world. John the Baptist was a harbinger of Christ. He was there to prepare the way for Jesus by calling men to repentance. That was his gift, his purpose, his divine destiny (Malachi 3:1, Luke 1:13-17).
4. Pursue your purpose. Don’t try to copy someone else’s destiny. God gave you your own specific purpose. There are thousands called to the mission field; however, not all are called to the same people groups, not all are called to open Bible schools, and not all are called to start churches in foreign lands (sometimes God called you to assist), not take charge. God called Nehemiah to build the wall (Nehemiah 1), Moses to lead his people out of bondage (Exodus 3:10); David to kill the giant (1 Samuel 17:48-51), and Jesus as Savior of the lost (1 Timothy 1:15).
You are destined for greatness. Seek God and then follow His plan for your life.
