Preparing to Pivot

How do you prepare for your new season? When God whispers your name and tells you he’s moving you forward to a new season, what are you supposed to do? Do you immediately pack your bags, quit your job, or start telling people that you have changed your status? No. God is a God of structure. So how do you prepare to ‘pivot’?

For me, it started as a period of rest. God said, “Stop what you are doing and take a period of rest.” He did not tell me how long; he just said, “Stop and rest.” So starting in January of 2025, I stopped growing my business, stopped writing, and stopped creating content. It was hard. I was doing these things every day, so when I stopped, it felt like I was moving backwards. But God had a plan. Six months in, I started to get a tug on my spirit. He started whispering to me again and pointing me in a specific direction. He did not scream at me or try to rush me; He simply gave me small directions to ‘pivot’ me in the direction He wanted me to go. When I seemed to be ignoring the directions, He would give me a gentle push to tell me to move along. At first, I did not want to do what He was telling me to do. I was very reluctant. He kept reminding me, “If you want something you have never had, you must do something you have never done.” So I reluctantly obeyed, and eventually I ‘pivoted’ and moved into my new season.

FIVE WAYS TO PREPARE TO PIVOT INTO YOUR NEW SEASON:

1. Embrace the Period of Rest
When God calls you to stop, obey without questioning the timeline. Rest is not regression—it’s preparation. Just as God commanded the Sabbath, He sometimes requires us to cease our activities so He can realign our hearts and refocus our vision.
*“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”Matthew 11:28
*“Be still, and know that I am God.”Psalm 46:10

2. Cultivate Spiritual Sensitivity
During your season of rest, develop a posture of listening. God doesn’t always shout; He often whispers. Tune your spirit to recognize His gentle nudges and directions, even when they come as subtle tugs on your heart.
*“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.'”Isaiah 30:21
*“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”John 10:27

3. Practice Obedience Over Comfort
Moving into a new season often requires doing something you’ve never done before. Your initial reluctance is normal, but obedience—even reluctant obedience—positions you for breakthrough. Trust that God’s directions lead to destinations you cannot yet see.
*“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”Proverbs 3:5-6
*“If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.”Isaiah 1:19

4. Resist the Urge to Rush the Process
God operates on His timeline, not yours. Don’t prematurely announce your transition or make hasty decisions. Allow God to unfold His plan step by step. Remember: God is a God of structure and order, and He will reveal each phase at the right time.
*“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”Ecclesiastes 3:1

5. Step Forward in Faith, Not Fear
When God gives you the green light to pivot, move forward even if you don’t have all the answers. Your new season requires new actions, new faith, and new courage. What brought you to this point won’t take you to the next level.
*“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”Joshua 1:9
*“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”Isaiah 43:19

Remember: If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done. Trust God’s timing, listen for His voice, and step into your new season with faith and obedience.
