Fully Persuaded: Confidence in the Impossible Promise

“And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us.” (1 John 5:14)

Let’s revisit this scripture from last week. Confidence. Assurance. The privilege of boldness. Certainty. This is not wishful thinking or hopeful guessing. This is settled knowing.

Abraham walked in that kind of certainty. God promised him an heir, and then the years piled up. Abraham turned ninety-nine. Sarah was long past childbearing. Every natural sign said impossible. Yet Scripture declares that Abraham “against hope believed in hope… He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform” (Romans 4:18, 20–21).

Fully persuaded. Not partly. Not on good days only. Fully.

So let me ask you plainly: What’s your confidence level? Are you absolutely sure God will keep His promises to you?

What about when no one else believes you? Sarah laughed. Others surely shook their heads. Abraham’s assurance did not depend on the agreement of the crowd. It rested on the character of the One who spoke.

What about when everything points to the impossibility of the promise? The Lord answered that question Himself: “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” (Genesis 18:14). Impossibility is simply the stage on which God displays His faithfulness.

Your confidence is not in your circumstances, your strength, or your timeline. It is in Him. When your request lines up with His will, you can be sure He hears you, and what He hears, He answers.

Walk it out this week:

  1. Write down the promise. Put on paper what God has spoken to you through His Word.
  2. Stop rehearsing the impossibility. Like Abraham, refuse to consider the “dead” things. Consider the God who gives life.
  3. Give glory before the manifestation. Praise Him now. Strong faith gives glory in advance.
  4. Guard your circle. Not everyone will believe with you. Keep your ear on God’s voice.

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)” (Hebrews 10:23).

Prayer

Father, I thank You that You are faithful to every word You have spoken. Like Abraham, I choose to be fully persuaded that what You have promised, You are able to perform. When others doubt and circumstances shout impossible, settle my heart in Your certainty. Strengthen my faith so I do not stagger at Your promises. I ask according to Your will, and I am confident You hear me. I give You glory now, before I see it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
