Opportunities are abundant, but often we miss those opportunities for many reasons. This week in my daily devotional, I am reading the story of Moses and Aaron telling Pharoah to let the children of Israel go after 400 years of slavery (Exodus). The children of Israel had been praying for deliverance, and God heard them and sent delivers. Instead of grasping the opportunity to be free, they argue with Moses and Aaron and blame them for their continued oppression. They told them to leave us alone, stop causing trouble, and go away. Identity: It’s Important to God
Identity denotes who someone is, the name of a person, or the beliefs that make a particular person different from others. Our names are a specific part of our identity. When Daniel and the other Hebrew children were taken into captivity in Babylon, their names were changed. These boys were, “Children in whom was no blemish, but well-favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and had the ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom could be taught the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.” (Daniel 1:4) It was customary for Read More
Lies: Take Courage and Go Forth
Lies, self-doubts, and other words are being spoken against you from the enemy. Take courage. The enemy is trying to discourage you from fulfilling your calling. Let me offer you some encouragement. Although things look bad, from your perspective, take another look. Start to see things from God’s perspective. The last couple of years have been rough for a lot of people. Let’s be honest. How many of you are in worst shape now than you were at the beginning of the pandemic? How many of you lost jobs, loved ones, friends, homes, etc. How many of you have been Read More
Narratives: Pursuing Purpose in a Crazy World
Narratives are the storylines of your life. They are accounts, reports, stories, events, or experiences. My narratives include being born and raised in rural North Carolina to currently working on my doctorate. I have changed the narratives of my life many times. Recently I heard the Lord say, ‘tell my people it’s time for them to remove themselves from the narratives currently shaping their lives’. Removing yourself from the narratives means it is time to stop doing whatever it is you are currently doing, take a look at what you are doing and see if it lines up with what Read More
Sufficiency: It Would Have Been Enough
Sufficiency is a gift from God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God (2 Corinthians 3:5). This weekend we celebrated Resurrection Sunday and Passover. I always think of the prayer we pray during Passover. It’s called Dayenu, which means ‘It would have been enough (sufficient). It is a song of thanksgiving and praise. Take a moment to read this prayer and meditate on it. When you began to look back over your life and see all that God has brought you through, shout Dayenu (It Would Have Read More
