I must be completely honest. Sometimes, I really want to ‘clap back’ at certain people. Lately, it’s been a daily struggle. To ‘clap back’ at someone means to respond to criticism or an insult with a sharp, witty, and effective comeback. Yet I must remember what the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:31, “I die daily.” As I thought about this scripture, I decided I wanted to write a book entitled “I Died More Than Once Today.”
The premise of the book is this:
A transformative exploration of what it truly means to “die daily” as a follower of Christ. Most Christians are familiar with the concept of dying to self—but we often treat it as a one-time decision made at conversion or during a mountaintop spiritual experience. I Died More Than Once Today challenges this notion, revealing that the Christian life is not about a single death, but countless small surrenders woven throughout each ordinary day.
Drawing from the Apostle Paul’s declaration in Galatians 2:20—”I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me”—this book unpacks the radical, moment-by-moment practice of laying down our lives so that Christ’s life can flow through us. It is a practice that happens not once, but repeatedly: in morning frustrations, midday conflicts, evening anxieties, and everything in between.
Through personal stories, biblical insight, and practical wisdom, I invite readers to an honest examination of what truly dies when we surrender to Christ—our need for control, our addiction to being right, our fear of discomfort, and our relentless self-protection. Each chapter explores different “deaths” we are called to throughout a single day: dying to our carefully planned agendas, to our defensive pride, to our craving for others’ approval, and to our illusion of self-sufficiency.
But this is not a book about defeat or self-loathing. Instead, it reveals the surprising paradox at the heart of Christian faith: that in losing our lives, we actually find them. Every small death makes space for resurrection—for authentic joy, genuine freedom, and the unmistakable presence of Christ alive within us. The book demonstrates how repeated surrender does not diminish us but transforms us, slowly reshaping our hearts to reflect the One we follow.
I Died More Than Once Today addresses the real struggles of this practice—the times when dying feels like defeat, when God seems silent, and when we are exhausted from surrendering. It distinguishes between healthy boundaries and selfish ambition, as well as between a doormat mentality and genuine humility. It reminds us that we are not meant to walk this path alone, but within a community of fellow “cross-bearers” who encourage one another toward Christlikeness.
Ultimately, this book is an invitation: to stop fighting for yourself and discover what it means to let Christ live through you. It’s a call to embrace the scandalous truth that the Christian life is found not in self-improvement or willpower, but in the daily, humble practice of dying—again and again—until we are finally, fully alive.
If you read this and felt the Holy Spirit tug at your heart, join me in choosing to die daily (and more than once; as many times as necessary).
