Mindset Mondays: That Same Power

Power is needed to defeat all of the schemes of the enemy. Where do you get your power? Not your electrical power. Even though that is important. On Friday we started to have power issues at our house. Some outlets worked; others did not work. The clock on the kitchen range kept going on and off. We were almost devoid of power. For some reason all of the overhead lights in the house worked just fine. To fix our power problem, we called on the experts, and they arrived promptly to fix the problem.

At times we find ourselves in the same position spiritually. Our power levels are low, and we may experience an outage. We pray, and we get answers; other times, we don’t know what to pray or what to say. There is also an expert to help us with this power issue. It’s our paraclete, the Holy Spirit. In Ephesians 1:19, Paul states,  “I pray that you will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of God’s power made available to you through faith.” All of that power is made available to us. This is the same power that raised Christ from the dead; it resides in us through the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11).

powerHow do you raise your spiritual power levels? Rely on the Holy Spirit to help you get CHARGED UP! Here are five ways the Holy Spirit helps you increase your spiritual power by playing a crucial role in your spiritual life by empowering and guiding you.

  1. Guidance and Wisdom: John 16:13 says, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” The Holy Spirit helps us understand and apply God’s word in our lives. Therefore, we make godly decisions and live in alignment with God’s will.
  2. Empowerment for Witnessing: Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses.”  The Holy Spirit empowers believers to share the gospel boldly and effectively.
  3. Transformation and Sanctification: 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, “And we all… are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. The Holy Spirit works within believers to transform them into the likeness of Christ. This process of sanctification involves growing in holiness, bearing the fruit of the Spirit, and overcoming sinful habits.
  4. Intercession and Prayer: Romans 8:26-27 says, “In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words.” The Holy Spirit aids believers in prayer, especially when they do not know what to pray for. He intercedes on their behalf according to God’s will, ensuring that their prayers align with God’s purposes.
  5. Bestowing Spiritual Gifts: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 speaks of the various gifts given by the Spirit for the common good.  “Now there are [distinctive] varieties of spiritual gifts [special abilities given by the grace and extraordinary power of the Holy Spirit operating in believers]..” The Holy Spirit distributes spiritual gifts to believers, equipping them for service within the body of Christ. These gifts enable believers to build up the church, minister to others, and fulfill their God-given calling.
