Storms are inevitable. Prepare! The National Weather Service lets us know when storms are heading our way. Here in Oklahoma, we get tornado warnings during the spring storm season. Storms come and go. In the natural, we are encouraged to prepare for the storms coming our way. In the Spirit, we should also be prepared for storms. These spiritual storms may not come with heavy rain, winds, flooding, or tornados, but they can be just as devastating.
What can we do to prepare? When the weather service tells us storms are coming we should have a plan of escape and collect the necessary items needed like food, water, or gasoline for the generator, etc. In the Spirit, we also need to stay informed by reading what the Word has to say about being prepared.
He planned for our salvation (Ephesians 2:10); He planned our direction (Jeremiah 29:11); He planned our home in heaven (John 14:3); He prepares our hearts (Psalm 10:17), and He plans divine connections in our lives (1 Kings 17:8-10). As children of the Almighty God, we must follow His lead and make plans and prepare. Proverbs 6:6-8 tells us to observe the action of one of the worlds’ smallest creatures, the ant. The lesson of the ant is one we should learn and follow; prepare.
As we make preparation in the natural for coming storms, we must also do so in the spirit. We need food from the Word (John 6:27; 2 Timothy 3:16), water from the Spirit (John 7:37-40), praying in the Holy Ghost (Romans 8:26-28) to stay fired up and ready, and a means of escape (Psalm 68:20). If we follow God’s plan and prepare we can make it through life’s many storms.
Natural storms leave so much devastation in their wake and often leave those affected with feelings of hopelessness. However, when we prepare with Spiritual weapons, we are not left feeling helpless and without hope. We are left with overwhelming gratefulness that God heard us and came to our rescue. He tucked us safely under the cover of His wings (Psalm 91) where no harm can come to us. All we have to do is abide forever in His presence. Preparation is never lost time. There is a song by Paul Wilbur, In Your Presence, which inspires me. Here is a portion of the song:
“I want to go where the rivers cannot overflow me, where my feet are on the rock
I want to hide where the blazing fire cannot burn me. In your presence O God.
I want to hide where the flood of evil cannot reach me, where I´m covered by the blood.
I want to be where the schemes of darkness cannot touch me. In Your presence O God.”
By focusing on the Word, the trials no longer seem insurmountable. God’s Word can move mountains. Stay in His presence where the storms cannot hurt you. Continue to trust God in the coming season. Trust me, there will be storms.
