Is Your Life an Offering?

There is a kind of faith that sits comfortably in the pew on Sunday mornings and never costs a thing. And then there is the faith the Bible actually calls us to — one that lays everything on the altar and holds nothing back.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship.” –Romans 12:1

Paul’s word choice here is striking. Not a dead sacrifice — a living one. The animal placed on the Old Testament altar had no say in the matter. But we do. Every single morning we must choose, again, to stay on the altar. That daily surrender is the heartbeat of a life sold out to God.

What does it mean to be “sold out”? It means there is no reserve tank we keep for ourselves — no corner of ambition, relationship, or time we quietly withhold from His lordship. Jesus described it plainly:

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”-Luke 9:23

Daily. Not once at an altar call. Not on the big milestones. Every ordinary Tuesday, every sleepless night, every moment of temptation and quiet pride — the cross is taken up again.

The Apostle Paul lived this out with radical consistency. He wrote from prison, from shipwrecks, from beatings. Yet he declared, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). His life was not his own — it was an open-handed offering, and God used it to turn the world upside down.

So the question is not merely theological. It is deeply personal: Is your life an offering? Are you living in a way that costs you something? Is your time, your treasure, your reputation on the table before God?

“You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (NIV)

A life given fully to God is not a diminished life; it is the most alive a human being can be. The fire on the altar is not destruction; it is transformation. When we stop clinging to our own plans and surrender to His, we discover that He is better than anything we were holding onto.

Today, climb back onto the altar. Not out of obligation, but out of love for the One who gave everything for you. Let your life be the worship.

Prayer: Lord, we come before You with open hands and surrendered hearts. Forgive us for the moments we have held back — the plans we clutched too tightly, the pride we protected, the comfort we chose over Your calling. Today we choose the altar again.

We offer You our time, our ambitions, our relationships, and our very lives. Not because we are worthy, but because You are. You bought us at a great price, and we belong to You. Transform us by the renewing of our minds. Let our days be acts of worship and our choices be a fragrant offering before Your throne.

May we be found faithful — not just on the mountaintops, but in the valley of every ordinary day. Keep us on the altar, Lord. We trust that Your plans are far better than our own. Amen
