Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that He is God. This scripture along with Psalm 91 and Psalm 107:20 has definitely been my bread the past month and especially this week. Hurricane Matthew was forecast to hit Florida 10/7/2016. I live in Jacksonville, Florida and we were released from work at 12:00 noon Thursday, 10/6/2016 to prepare for the storm and/or evacuate. I was told so many times to leave Florida and head home to North Carolina or go anywhere. But in my spirit, I had a peace not to be moved. The area I recently moved to in Jacksonville was not one of the areas they were evacuating, so I prepared to stay.
I was getting texts and calls from people telling me to get out and asking me what I was going to do. I kept hearing the Holy Spirit say “Be Still and Know That I AM God.” I had already decreed and prayed Psalm 91 and Psalm 107:20 over me and my community, the very day I heard about the hurricane. Also, I had others praying and agreeing with me. There is power in agreement; it does not matter if what you are agreeing on is right or wrong. Remember Genesis 11:4-6, the story of the Tower of Babel, they began to say the same thing and they were in agreement and God had to come down and confuse their language.
There will be times in your life that God is leading you in the opposite direction that appears popular with everyone else. It may also appear to be the best decision in the natural, based on the circumstances. Voices of others can become louder if you do not stay connected to and trust God. Hurricane Matthew was looking detrimental, massive, and screaming real loud “GET OUT OF FLORIDA”! Then, the Holy Spirit said to me “stop watching the news so much; look at it long enough to know what’s going on and cut it off.” If we continue to feed our spirit man negativity, junk, doubt and unbelief, that’s what we will become and speak/say. I prayed and asked God, what should I do, I really need to hear from you, do I leave or stay? The Holy Spirit directed me to an article in Victory magazine about a man who prayed that flood waters would not touch his home. His prayer was answered as flood waters hit all the homes in the neighborhood except his. Praise God, I had my answer.
God is Awesome! I stayed and had no damage to my apartment or my car. I also had no structural, water damage, or flooding in my neighborhood. I never lost power! I later heard that Hurricane Matthew had travelled the very path I would have taken if I had evacuated up I-95. I could hear the Holy Spirit say again, that’s why I told you to be still and know that I AM God, because you would have been in the storm heading out and not able to return because of the heavy flooding in North and South Carolina. Listen to God and not man (Psalm 118:8). So, don’t be anxious about anything, but pray about everything, let God lead you. Be Still and Know That HE IS GOD!
What a powerful word from guest blogger, Eve Perry, about listening to God (instead of man) during Hurricane Matthew. You can learn to trust God in the midst of your own storms. Here is a great resource.
