Forky: Life Lessons from Toy Story 4

I found this wonderful article “Life Lessons from Toy Story 4” by Rita Dunaway. The author gives us a look at the life lessons we can learn from the movie Toy Story 4. Toy Story 4 centers around a new toy named “Forky.” Actually, he’s not a fork; he’s a plastic spork. Bonnie, the little girl who owns Woody and the other lovable toys, created Forky with her own hands on her first day in kindergarten. How many of you remember how afraid you were on your first day? Bonnie is very proud of her creation, having made him from Read More

Telling My Story: 63 Years of Reflections

Today I am telling my story.  My story started on June 17, 1956. Today is my 63rd birthday.  In celebration, I am reflecting on my 63 years of life. To do this, I am using one of the songs from the Hamilton Musical, Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story.  The song starts like this: “Let me tell you what I wished I’d known when I was young and dreamed of glory you have no control, who lives, who dies, who tells your story.” There is a lot of truth in this statement and a few lessons to be Read More

Proverbs 30:5 – WORD UP!

I LOVE GOD’S WORD. Proverbs 30:5 says “Every WORD of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.”  Psalm 91 is one of my favorite scriptures. I love every verse. When I think of all the times I have relied on this scripture; believe me, there are too many to count.  The recent storms roaring through Oklahoma are a good example of how much I rely on this scripture. We’ve had night after night of tornados, torrential rain, hail, and high winds. I cannot be more convinced that God acts when we speak Read More

Are You Teachable?

Do you possess a teachable spirit? What is that you may ask. Proverbs 17:10 tells us, “A reprimand goes deeper into one who has understanding and a teachable spirit, than a hundred lashes into a fool.”  My devotional reading for today was a remarkable lesson on having a teachable spirit. Please take note of what it said. The lesson started with a paraphrase of Proverbs 17:10, “You can get more through a wise person with one gentle conversation than you can to a fool by whacking him over the head a hundred times.”  There are some individuals who refuse to Read More

I Believe: Whose Report are you Going to Believe?

I believe we are in a season of change. I believe we have some decisions to make if we are to fulfill our calling. I believe that we have to stay connected to the source of our power, the Holy Spirit if we are to succeed in what God has called us to do. Sometimes we feel as if we are stalled on a dangerous highway with traffic rushing at us from all directions, but God. God has already made a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). We have to be willing to face those threats head-on for God is Read More

Keeping the Faith: Born to Taste the Grapes

This week’s blog is about ‘Keeping the Faith’. In Numbers 13:25-14:10, the twelve spies come back with some very large grapes and a story to tell. Did you know, you were born to taste the grapes (awesome gifts from God)? God provided manna for His people during their 40-year journal through the desert.  God does nothing without purpose.  The Holy Spirit is our teacher and our guide.  God provided for them in the desert because there was typically nothing else for them to eat; however, now the people must learn to trust God by working the land and sowing and Read More
