Elephants are very large mammals. They are herbivores and spend the majority of their day eating. In this post, I want to discuss ‘The Elephants in the Room’. Many people have asked where this term originated and what it actually means. According to one source, the phrase is relatively new, possibly originating in the 20th century. As for the meaning, it is fairly obvious; ‘Ignoring an obvious problem and failing to address an issue which is as big as an elephant’.
One such elephant that is currently standing in many rooms is the upcoming election. There are many sides and only two candidates, yet Christians refuse to talk about. Many are afraid to say who they support because (let’s face it) neither one of them is someone you would want to take home to meet your momma.
I’m writing this post to offer some encouragement. If you are thinking of not voting in this election, think again. It is our civic duty to vote. Not sure who to vote for; PRAY. I mean sincerely pray and ask God to show you His heart. Do not believe the lies that the enemy is trying to tell you that your vote does not matter; it does.
Think about your agenda. I told my daughter I was going to vote for the person who comes closest to fulfilling God’s agenda and my agenda for this country.
As a Christian and a black woman, I want to see some supreme court justices put in place to help get this country back on track.
• Did you know that the next president will likely appoint four new justices?
• Did you know that abortion if the number one killer of black people, not police or violence?
• Did you know that the US black population is a mere 12%; yet 28% of all abortions are black babies?
• Did you know that 79% of Planned Parenthood’s surgical abortion facilities are located within walking distance of African-American and/or Hispanic/Latino communities?
• Did you know that the most dangerous place for an African-American is not standing unarmed in front of a policeman; it’s in the womb?
It’s time to put a stop to black genocide. Educate yourself on the issues at stake; not just for blacks, but for all people. So on November 8th get out and vote. Challenge the elephants in the room which are so very visible, yet no one wants to talk about. President John F. Kennedy addressed the Canadian Parliament in 1961, “At the conference table and in the minds of men, the free world’s cause is strengthened because it is just. But it is strengthened even more by the dedicated efforts of free men and free nations. As Edmund Burke said, The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. ”And that in essence is why I am here today. This trip is more than a consultation–more than a good-will visit. It is an act of faith–faith in your country, in your leaders–faith in the capacity of two great neighbors to meet their common problems–and faith in the cause of freedom, in which we are so intimately associated.” Please do something. Get out and vote. Want more information? Here are a couple of resources: What Is God Showing America About the Election?: Elephant and The Presidential Election: A Christian Perspective.
