There is a dangerous comfort in tolerance. Somewhere along the way, many believers traded dominion for coexistence. We learned to live beside the very things God commanded us to rule over including sickness, fear, poverty, addiction, confusion, generational strongholds and we called our endurance “patience” or “long-suffering.” But tolerance and dominion are not the same spirit. One waits the enemy out. The other casts him out.
In the beginning, God’s first command to man was not “endure the earth” but “have dominion” (Genesis 1:26). Dominion was the original assignment. It was never God’s design for His children to simply survive under the weight of what He already defeated. Yet tolerance creeps in quietly. It sounds reasonable. It sounds humble. “This is just my thorn.” “This is just how my family is.” “This is just the season I’m in.”
But there is a difference between a season and a stronghold,
and too many of us have made peace with strongholds by mistaking them for seasons.
Jesus never tolerated what He had authority over. When the storm rose, He did not endure it, He rebuked it (Mark 4:39). When sickness stood in His path, He did not accommodate it, He healed it. He modeled dominion, not tolerance, and He gave that same authority to us: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19).
So examine what you have quietly agreed to live with. What have you called “normal” that God called you to master? What have you been enduring in silence that was never meant to outlast your obedience? Tolerance says, “I’ll manage this.” Dominion says, “This bows to the Word.” The moment you stop negotiating with what you were assigned to rule, you step back into the authority that was yours from the beginning.
You are not called to survive your assignment. You are called to subdue it.
Closing Prayer
Father, forgive me for the ground I have surrendered in the name of patience. Show me clearly what You have called me to dominate rather than tolerate. Strip away every false peace I have made with the enemy’s territory in my life. Restore in me the authority You gave from the beginning, and give me courage to walk in dominion, not endurance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
