Girl, Cleanse Your House!

Girl, cleanse your house! This is a 2-part series on cleansing your house. There is a popular book series (The Girl series) currently taking the book world by storm. This blog post is in no way referring to that series. I want to take a few moments to talk about an issue that I believe is very important; spiritually imperative even. Cleansing your house.

Girl, Cleanse Your HouseThe house I am referring to is not your body; it is your physical dwelling place; the place you lay your head at night and wake up to in the morning. I am not referring to cleaning with a mop, broom, or duster. I am talking about a full spiritual cleanse. Let me say, that I’ve had an extensive spiritual education, and I know others have not and may not be aware that they need to do this. However, the Word tells us ‘do not be ignorant of satan’s schemes’ (2 Corinthians 2:11) and also ‘be always on the alert for satan is looking for someone who he can easily deceive’ (1 Peter 5:8). Do not be that person. That’s one of the reasons I blog in order to teach others what I have learned. You may be asking, ‘Why do I need to spiritually cleanse my house’?

Cleansing your house–and keeping it cleansed–is essential because demonic spirits will come in and make themselves at home through any door you have opened. First of all, you need to recognize that there are problems in your home. I am not referring to any kind of worldly cleansing using herbs, stone, or wood. I am talking about walking through your house with the Holy Ghost praying, casting out demons, and taking authority. You need to talk to the Holy Spirit and ask Him how to proceed. You also need to repent for bringing these things into your home. If you are a blood-bought child of God, then demons and demonic objects have no place in your life (or your house). However, if you have opened a door to them, they will oppress you until you get that door closed and get rid of them.

I hear people constantly complaining about how tired they feel, how depressed and oppressed they are, and how they are always having negative thoughts. Oftentimes times, people can’t sleep, are having nightmares, and hearing noises and seeing things in the night. When you take a look at their dwelling place or places where they spend their time (work/play), you can immediately see what’s causing the problem. These places are filled with so much troubling stuff you have to wonder how they have any peace at all. There needs to be a cleanse.

So, what should you be throwing out? Pick up a trash bag and let’s get moving. Get rid of everything that depicts sin, agrees with sin, celebrates sin, or memorializes sin or other cleanse evil. Start with your music and your movie collection (See my blog post on Worship). Music is one of the major avenues the enemy uses to gain access into your home and your heart. You’ve heard the scripture about serving two masters, right? (Matthew 6:24) You will always love the one and hate the other. So, when you are trying to decide who to love, take a look at what you are listening to.

Also, get rid of posters and anything that produces lustfulness, especially movies or art. Annabelle and Chucky should not be welcome in your house. Remember, objects carry spirits. If you are going through your house and the Holy Spirit tells you to get rid of something, do so. If you are thinking to yourself, ‘BUT,’ that’s a sure sign it needs to go because it obviously has a hold on you. The scriptural precedent for this is found in 2 Chronicles 29:15 (“You shall not bring an abomination (idol) into your house, and like it come under the ban (doomed to destruction); you shall utterly detest, and you shall utterly hate it, for it is something banned.”) Scripture is clear: do not bring a curse into your home. By doing so, you and your house are set apart for destruction. Let me be clear. The items you are collecting are not to be given to anyone or sold, they are to be utterly destroyed.

Stay tuned next week for part two of this series. I will include a prayer for cleansing your house and include some objects which are set apart for destruction which, you may have in your home.
