It’s important that even in the midst of adversity, we focus on the good. I recently returned from a beach trip. It was supposed to be a week at a beautiful beach house and time away on the beach. Well, Hurricane Debbie had different plans. We took a trip to Virginia Beach to visit family and also to relax on the beach for a few days. Debbie decided she wanted to visit Virginia Beach during that time; therefore, our beach time was cut short. We only got to walk to the beach a couple of times but did not spend Read More
Mindset Mondays: I Don’t IMPLY!
I Don’t IMPLY! Imply means to suggest something without saying it directly. I don’t imply. One of my favorite TV series is The Last Ship. It’s about a navy warship that was sent to help find the cure for a deadly pandemic. The captain of the ship is Captain Tom Chandler. He made a statement to an adversary, and the adversary asked what he was implying. Captain Chandler said, “I am a military man, and I don’t imply!” We need to have that same attitude with the devil. We, too, are military men and women in God’s service, and we Read More
Mindset Monday: Obedience
Obedience is following each phase of God’s instructions. Has God ever told you to hide? In 1 Kings 17:2-4, God told Elijah to go and hide. He gave Elijah specific instructions: Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: Leave here, turn eastward Hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan Drink from the brook Wait for the ravens to bring you food These instructions were not suggestions. If Elijah had chosen to do things differently, he would not have survived. Obedience was the key. When God gives us instructions, we need to be obedient. If we had stopped reading after Read More
Mindset Mondays: Practicing God’s Presence
We can never spend too much time practicing God’s presence. In my devotional reading a few days ago, I was captivated by the author speaking about maintaining a life of peace and joy by practicing God’s presence. She said the secret to a life of peace and joy is maintaining an awareness of God’s presence even in the most mundane of circumstances. Even though we often mentally acknowledge that God is everywhere, we are less aware of God with us and in us (Psalm 16:8). We must be intentional in turning to God (in us) over and over again to Read More
Mindset Mondays: Living Intentionally
Living intentionally involves making conscious choices that reflect your values and beliefs. It means being proactive rather than reactive and living with purpose rather than drifting aimlessly. A few months ago, I published a post entitled Next Time: Be Intentional. You can view it here. Since that time, the Holy Spirit has been continually speaking to me about intentionality. We must be constantly aware of our intentions when dealing with people, our finances, our thoughts, our motives, and every part of our lives. God wants us to live intentionally. What does intentionality look like from a Biblical perspective? Living intentionally Read More
Mindset Mondays: That Same Power
Power is needed to defeat all of the schemes of the enemy. Where do you get your power? Not your electrical power. Even though that is important. On Friday we started to have power issues at our house. Some outlets worked; others did not work. The clock on the kitchen range kept going on and off. We were almost devoid of power. For some reason all of the overhead lights in the house worked just fine. To fix our power problem, we called on the experts, and they arrived promptly to fix the problem. At times we find ourselves in Read More
