Prepare! Storm warnings are out for the east coast as Hurricane Irma roars toward land as a Category 5 hurricane. Storms come and go. Did you know September is actually National Preparedness Month? Please check out the website to learn how to prepare when natural storms are headed your way. In the natural, we are encouraged to prepare for storms coming our way. In the Spirit, we should also be prepared for storms. These spiritual storms may not come with heavy rain, winds, flooding, or tornados, but they can be just as devastating.
What can we do to prepare? In the natural, we should stay informed of coming storms, have a plan of escape, and collect the necessary items needed like food, water, gasoline for the generator, etc. In the Spirit, we also need to stay informed by reading what the Word has to say about being prepared.
God is a preparer. He does nothing without a plan. He planned for our salvation (Ephesians 2:10 ); He planned our direction (Jeremiah 29:11); He planned our home in heaven (John 14:3); He prepares our hearts (Psalm 10:17); and He plans divine connections in our lives (1 Kings 17:8-10). As children of the Almighty God, we must follow His lead and make plans and prepare. Proverbs 6:6-8 tells us to observe the action of one of the worlds’ smallest creatures, the ant. The lesson of the ant is one we should learn and follow; prepare.
As we make preparation in the natural for coming storms, we must also do so in the spirit. We need food from the Word (John 6:27), water from the Spirit (John 7:37-40), praying in the Holy Ghost (Romans 8:26-28) to stay fired up and ready, inspiration from the Word (2 Timothy 3:16), and a means of escape (Psalm 68:20). If we follow God’s plan and prepare we can make it through life’s many storms. Natural storms like Katrina, Harvey, and Irma leave so much devastation in their wake and often leave those affected with feelings of hopelessness. However, when we prepare with Spiritual weapons, we are not left feeling helpless and without hope. We are left with an overwhelming gratefulness that God heard us and came to our rescue. He tucked us safely under the cover of His wings (Psalm 91) where no harm can come to us. All we have to do is abide forever in His presence. Preparation is never lost time. This song by Paul Wilbur inspires me. Whenever I am faced with what appears to be insurmountable trials I listen to this song. By focusing on the Word, the trials no longer seem insurmountable.
Here are the lyrics:
“In Your presence, that´s where I am strong. In Your presence, O Lord my God.
In Your presence, that´s where I belong. Seeking Your face, touching Your grace.
In the cleft of the rock, In Your presence O God.
I want to go where the rivers cannot overflow me, where my feet are on the rock.
I want to hide where the blazing fire cannot burn me.
In your presence O God.
I want to hide where the flood of evil cannot reach me, where I´m covered by the blood.
I want to be where the schemes of darkness cannot touch me.
In Your presence O God.
You are my firm foundation I trust in You all day long
I am Your child and Your servant
And you are my strength and my song.
You´re my song.
Seeking Your face touching Your grace in the cleft of the Rock
In Your presence O God
In Your presence.
In Your presence O God
In Your presence O God.”
