Suddenlies: Godly Mushrooming

We are in a season of ‘Godly Mushrooming’ or Suddenlies. Things are speeding up in the natural and in the Spirit. Have you noticed it? The word ‘mushroom‘ has many meanings including ‘an umbrella shaped fungus’. The definition I am using today is ‘to spring up suddenly or multiply rapidly’.  The verb form of mushroom is ‘mushrooming’ meaning a sudden, rapid growth. Many species of mushrooms seemingly appear suddenly overnight, growing or expanding rapidly. It’s been so wet and rainy here in Tulsa that huge mushrooms are springing up everywhere; which inspired me to write this post. Take a look at those huge mushrooms in this picture I took after church last Sunday.

SuddenliesIn the kingdom of God, suddenlies are not uncommon. The word appears 87 times in scripture. There can be both good and bad suddenlies.  I remember once I was job hunting and saw a position I wanted. I went online and applied for the job and suddenly (in about 2 minutes) I got a call from the employer asking if I could do a phone interview. We talked for a couple of minutes and she asked me if I wanted the job. Suddenly, I went from unemployed to employed.

Once during a really bad storm, I watched a tornado start to form right above my house. The clouds were visibly lowering and whirling as they tried to reach the ground. I had already prayed for protection around my property therefore,  I spoke to the storm and said ‘Get away from my house, you have no right here’. As quickly as the lowering had appeared it suddenly dissipated and went back up. If Jesus can speak to the storm so can you. I trust God with my moments each and every day. His Word works. Believe it, Speak it, and Receive it.

Here are a few scripture examples of Suddenlies:

  • Acts 2:2 – Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
  • Acts 9:3 – Suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him (Paul on the way to Damascus).
  • Acts 12:7 –  Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter.
  • Acts 16:26 – Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken.
  • Isaiah 52:12 – For you will not go out suddenly, and you will not go in flight: for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will come after you to keep you.
  • Revelation 3:3 – Be mindful, therefore, of the lessons you have received and heard. Continually lay them to heart, and repent. If, however, you fail to rouse yourself and keep awake, I shall come upon you suddenly like a thief, and you will certainly not know the hour at which I shall come to judge you.

We have to trust God with all of our seasons right down to our smallest of moments. He holds our present and our future in His hands. In this season, look for those moments of Suddenlies. If you need something right now, do not be afraid to ask for it, right now. Suddenlies are possible.
