Broken Focus Leads to Disaster: Avoid Distractions

Broken Focus leads to disaster and distractions are dangerous. That’s the message I got from the Holy Spirit this week. As Christians, we need to remain focused on what’s important to God which includes His plans and His people (Colossians 3). Do not allow the things going on in the world to distract you from your purpose or your call.

BROKEN FOCSFocus is a game-changer; however, broken focus will lead to disaster. Broken focus is a plan killer. This week and the coming weeks will be very busy for me. My Spring class starts on Thursday, I am working on assignments, working on my dissertation, and also getting ready for a Conference presentation. This week is filled with meetings and more meetings. I have been truly relying on the Holy Spirit to help me focus and to bring things to my remembrance (John 14:26).

How can you make it through a tough week? Here are four things you need to do:

  1. Focus on what’s important; broken focus is a plan killer.
  2. Start with a plan and start that plan with prayer.
  3. Commit to what needs to get done, then do it.
  4. Remove distractions. You can’t get much done if you are constantly distracted by other people or other things.

I love Life Lessons. Here are two distractions-based lessons from scripture.
1. Samson was distracted by Delilah, lost his focus and his life (Judges 16).
2. David was distracted by Bathsheba; lost his focus, his honor,  and his firstborn (2 Samuel 11).

Broken focus leads to disaster. I am trusting God to help me get through the coming hours, days, weeks, and months. I am staying focused on those things that I can control. Anything else is a distraction sent to break my focus. I will not allow those into my life. Those things in the world should grow dim as you focus on your plan and purpose.

If you follow these four suggestions busyness becomes productive.  You will be able to focus and move items from your to-do list in record time.  Remember, you are not in this alone. You have a (Paraclete, one called alongside to assist, your helper), the Holy Spirit. I highly recommend His help.
