Fear Not. How many times does God tell us to have no fear? Some say 365 times. Regardless, it’s a lot. This is the fourth and final installment of my In Him Realities series. We are living in strange times as COVID-19 makes its way around the world. As a member of the academic community, I have been on Spring break this week. In the natural, I am returning to work tomorrow to an uncertain work environment; however, in the Spirit I have no fear for God is with me. In Him I am hidden under His wings (kanaph). Kanaph means: wing, extremity, edge, winged, border, corner, shirt, or corner (of garment). He has spread His wing/corner of His garment over me.
This word for wings is found throughout the Bible; here are several examples: Exodus 19:4; Psalm 63:7; Psalm 91:4; and Ruth 2:12; 3:9. In the book of Ruth, Ruth asks Boaz to spread the corner of his cloak over her as a sign she is asking for his protection. In the New Testament, the word or hem or corner conveys the same meaning as in Mark 5:25-34, Matthew 9:20-22 and Matthew 14:36. Those who were sick wanted to touch the hem (corner, fringe) of His garment. Wings are a place of refuge and safety. He calls us to Himself in these troubled times in order to protect us. He is calling, and by faith we answer, knowing just as the woman with the issue of blood knew, that if only we can touch the hem of his garment or hide ourselves under His wings, the enemy will not be able to touch us.
Seek Him during these turburlent times and Fear Not, for He is with you and under His wings you can take refuge. Reach out to Him and touch the corner of His garment where you will find safety. In order to have a shadow you must have light. Psalm 91 says you must abide in the ‘shadow’ of the Almighty. In order to be in someone’s shadow, you need to be close to them. Shadows move when we move, therefore with Jesus, we must also move with Him, in other words, we must ABIDE. Fear not, He is with you and in you. In Him, we have refuge and protection.
I hope you have enjoyed this series on In Him Realities. If you missed the first three, you can find them here, here, and here. Have a blessed week. Remember to Fear Not for God is with you. As you abide in Him, He will abide in you.
