Speak Love: Tame Your Tongue

SPEAK LOVE. I published a post a couple of years ago entitled “Shut Up: Silence Can Never Be Misquoted.” It is one of my top-rated posts. I think it is time to publish it again. I have been reading comments online about things that are happening at this time in history, and we as Christians need to be careful with our mouths (any kind of commentary). SPEAK LOVEJames 3:6 tells us, “A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech, we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell”. We need to stop talking. Someone has said that even a fish wouldn’t get caught if it kept its mouth shut!

Read and listen to what God has to say about your mouth.
Proverbs 12:18 – The tongue of the wise brings healing.
Ephesians 4:29 – Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Proverbs 21:23 – Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.
James 3:8 – No human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
1 Peter 3:10 – Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit
Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.

Silence can never be misquoted. You do not need to answer every critic and every crazy person on Facebook. You do not need to offer a rebuttal statement to every argument. Before you post that Facebook comment or share anything, check your Spirit. Are you commenting out of LOVE, or are you commenting because you THINK you are RIGHT? Why is so important for you to be right? What’s MOST important is for you to be KIND and walk in LOVE.

Remember what Jesus did when the Pharisees questioned Him, He did not speak;  He simply wrote on the ground (John 8:6). Stop talking, shut up, be quiet or whatever works for you. Let your silence and your Godly LOVE speak for you instead. I have been guilty of this also; but, I have decided that it does not matter who’s right. What matters is that when we stand before God we want Him to say WELL DONE, not why didn’t you SPEAK LOVE? Why did you have to make all those useless attempts to be right?

Let’s make a decision today and every day to walk in Love. If you are not sure if you are walking in Love, stop and pray about it before you speak it or write it. Let the Holy Spirit guide you.
