Fun Fact Friday: Love is Addictive!

Continuing our fun facts for February, let’s focus on LOVE. February is known for its focus on all things related to Valentine’s Day (love, chocolate, flowers, candy, hearts). Here’s a fun fact!

Did you know? Love can be addictive! Brain scans have shown that being in love activates the same areas of the brain associated with reward and pleasure, similar to the effects of addictive substances.

When a person is in love, the brain releases chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin. Dopamine, often referred to as the “feel-good” neurotransmitter, is associated with pleasure, reward, and motivation. Oxytocin, sometimes called the “love hormone” or “bonding hormone,” plays a role in social bonding, trust, and emotional attachment.

Beyond all these things, put on and wrap yourselves in [unselfish] love, which is the perfect bond of unity [for everything is bound together in agreement when each one seeks the best for others] (Colossians 3:14). Get addicted to God’s love above all else.
