This Ain’t No Fairytale: Trusting God for your Prince.

There was a recent television show about fairytales, called Once Upon A Time. Everyone was looking for their happy ending, including the villain, Rumpelstiltskin, also known as the Dark One.  Well, this life is no fairytale, but we can still have our happy endings. Ladies, have you been praying for your Prince Charming, but Rumpelstiltskin keeps showing up? A couple of my friends have started to date again. One of them was married and is fairytalenow a widow; the other is a young lady who has never been married but decided she was ready to try the dating game. I have noticed that there are many Christian young ladies who have a desire to get married but for some reason, they seem to end up with something quite disappointing.

Here’s a true story. There was once a young lady who married a man whom she believed was her Prince. He was handsome, kind, rich, and best of all he was in church. Did I mention, RICH? They married and had a baby. She was happy and well cared for until one day her fairytale came to a horrible and abrupt end. You see, her prince was rich because he was taking someone else’s money. He was literally, a bank robber. She was devastated, and rightfully so.

Let me start by stating ‘This Ain’t No Fairytale’. Ladies, stop believing the fairytale lie and start trusting God for something lasting and real. Here are five reasons why you may end up with a Rumpel instead of a Prince:

  1. Are you seeking God? God knows you and the kind of man you need in your life. Sure, you have fantasy ideas about your Prince, but only God intimately knows your Prince. (Jeremiah 1:5 – God knew your Prince even before he was born and had already established his purpose). The Prince YOU are believing for may belong to someone else. His purpose and your purpose are not aligned. Ask God to guide you and your prince.
  2. Be patient. I would be a rich woman if I got a dime for every time I heard someone say, “I am tired of waiting for my man”. Do you eat raw meat? Do you pick and eat your fruits and vegetables before they are ripe? If you answered ‘yes’ to either of these questions that explains why you are getting Rumpel instead of your Prince. God is not finished with him yet. It takes time for meat to cook and for fruits and vegetables to ripen, and it takes a while for God to perfect your man. (Psalm 138:8 – God will perfect all things that concern you). Be patient.
  3. Get ready. So many of us want a mansion when we have not even learned how to take care of a small apartment. We want a Mercedes when that Ford sitting in the driveway looks like you took it off-roading. You need to be preparing. Do not be like the five virgins who were found wanting and not ready when the groom arrived (Matthew 25:1-13). Take care of the small things God had given you if you want Him to give you more. Prepare yourself spiritually, mentally, and physically. Remember God’s gifts should make our lives richer, with no sorrow is added to it (Proverbs 10:22).
  4. Know your Seasons. (Ecclesiastes 3:1) There are many seasons in our lives which usually dictate our spiritual journeys. There are seasons of suffering, laughter, sickness, poverty, joy, tears, pain, etc. The good news; Seasons Change. If you are not out of your waiting season, your Prince is not due to arrive. Know the season in which you abide. There are times when God’s plans happen at an appointed time, while others require a fullness or maturing of time. Wait for your ‘such as time as this’ (Esther 4:14).
  5. Discern God’s Gift. Ok, God is ready to deliver your Prince. The man is ready. Your problem; you do not recognize the gift that God is trying to give you. When you look at this man, you start telling God that this is not the man you wanted. He is not tall enough, black enough or white enough, rich enough, or pretty enough. You have a list of what you think your Prince should be (this is why you continually end up with Rumpelstiltskin). Ladies, take a lesson from Samson. Delilah was not God’s gift for him, he just wanted her (Judges 13-16) and look what happened to him.

Give God time to complete the work He has begun in your Prince and in you. He will deliver your prince when you and he are ready.
