Favorite Scriptures: What Comes to Mind?

I am often asked, ‘What are my favorite scriptures?’ I really have to stop and think about it. There are several scriptures of which I am very fond, but they are not necessarily my favorites. I would say they are my go to scriptures when I need to meditate on something specific.

Here are some examples:
Jeremiah 29:11 (MSG)
“I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.”

Philippians 4:19 (AMP)
‘And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.’

Joshua 23:10 (ESV)
‘One man of you puts to flight a thousand, since it is the Lord your God who fights for you, just as he promised you.’

The Ephesians prayers  (Ephesians 1:15-20) are also numbered among my go to scriptures. Pray these for yourself and others.

Some of my favorite scriptures are based on worship songs. When I discover a new worship song I love, I search to find out what scriptures the song is based upon.  One example is “Think About His Love. I love this song.  It reminds me of how great His love is for me and for you. This song is a daily reminder that I can trust Him because He first loved me. Don Meon is one of my favorite worship leaders. There are several scriptures upon favorite scriptureswhich this song is based.

  1. Psalm 103:11 (NIV)  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him.
  2. Romans 5:8 (NIV) God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Another of my ‘favorite scriptures’ is Psalm 91. I love every verse. When I think of all the times I have relied on this scripture; believe me, there are too many to count. Recently a co-worker and I were driving back from a conference. We left a little later than expected so we got caught on the Turnpike in a full-blown, severe thunderstorm, including golf-ball sized hail, torrential rains, and high winds. My co-worker was driving so I was free to concentrate on praying. The visibility was worst than poor, but I know my God would be true to His word. He watches over His WORD to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12); another one of my favorite scriptures. We came through the storm unscathed with no damage to the car, but with another testimony of how my God is always faithful. As we traveled through the storm that night two scriptures kept coming into my spirit.  One from Genesis 22:5, Abraham went to offer up Issac to God as a sacrifice and he told his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” By faith, Abraham knew that God had a plan which did not include sacrificing his son. Thus, he told them that he and Issac  (both of them) would come back. The second scripture which came into my spirit was Luke 8:22-25, Jesus tells the disciples to get in the boat and let’s go to the other side. Jesus falls asleep and a crazy storm blows in frightening the disciples. When the disciples wake him, Jesus speaks to the storm and then all is calm. Once again, God watched over His word to perform it. If Jesus said we were going to the other side, you can count on making it to the other side no matter what the circumstances.

I take my scriptures wherever I can find them. Whether in a song, poem, from friend or foe, or the Bible. When you ask me my favorite scriptures I may pause to think; I am trying to pick one which relates to my current situation or one which God has placed in my heart. What are some of your favorites? I would love to hear from you.
