History Has Its Eyes on You and So Does God.

History is about what happens in the NOW which later becomes the past. There is a song in the Hamilton Musical which really sums up history. It’s called History Has Its Eyes On You.  Even when we think the things which we do each day are not important, history is watching and recording. The words we speak are often recorded and repeated throughout history, so be careful what you say. Our actions can cause others to be blessed or cursed, so watch what you do. Yes, history definitely has its eyes on you, but so does our loving God. I was reminded of this today in church when a young man who had been convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison for being one of the shooters in a drive-by was miraculously released from prison after serving less than two years. God rewrote his story.

HistoryIf your history is one of defeat and shame, do not be alarmed; God also has His eyes on you and He is rewriting your history. When is rewriting history a good thing?’ When God steps in, take the eraser and the pen and writes a totally different story. In the Hamilton song the question is asked, ‘Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?’ In our life, which we live in Christ, God tells our story. Not the version the enemy is broadcasting, but the version which proclaims our enemy is defeated, we are seated in heavenly places, we are healed, we are blessed beyond measure, we are forgiven, and walking in the fullness of God’s mercy, love, and favor.  That’s the story God is telling.

God is even now rewriting your story. Consider the story of King David. He had committed adultery with Bathsheba and then killed her husband Uriah. His story was one of a man found guilty of a crime; however, God rewrote his story. In Psalm 51, we see David’s plea to God for restoration and forgiveness, and God rewrote his story. Again, in Acts 8 and Acts 9, Paul’s story was rewritten. He was a murderer who became a follower of Christ.  Who can forget the story of Moses (Exodus 2 - 6) who became the deliverer and Joseph  (Genesis 37-51) who went from the pit to the palace?

God is always (and I repeat ALWAYS) rewriting the stories of His people. So do not despair; put your trust in God and watch how He rewrites your history and tells your amazing story of redemption. We all have stories we would like to forget; some more horrific than others. But God!! He is the restorer of the broken-hearted; healer of our worst hurts; deliverer of those who are in bondage and He holds the keys to our prisons. He will restore all that the enemy has stolen.  Remember, one of His names is El Roi (God Sees Me). He holds our history in His hands.
